FJIT School Healthcare Society was established in 1966.  It was one of the founding members of the Hungarian Association of Medical Societies.

We are  open to individuals from any related disciplines, and we welcome all college graduates dedicated to disease prevention, who support the work of school healthcare and accept our charter. Our members are mainly school doctors and school “health visitors” working in school healthcare, but there are also teachers, lecturers, psychologists and public healthcare specialists among us.  To cite the words of József Fodor:   Health protection is not only a medical task, but also a duty of education; by educating more we need to treat less.

We work as a nationwide public benefit association. The number of our active members has recently grown, currently there are nearly 200 members. FJIT is a member of EUSUHM the European Union for School and University Health and Medicine.

We have several partnerships with other respected  national organisations in Hungary (such as the „Association of Hungarian Health Visitors”  (MAVE, more decriptively Hungarian Association of Mother, Child and Public Health Nurses, but the above mentioned is the official name), National Food and Drug Agency, Hometeachers National  Professional Assocition, Eötvös Loránd University Faculty of School Psychology, Heim Pál National Childrens Hospital, Paediatric Departments of Semmelweis Medical School, …)

To aid continuing education we hold regular conferences organised to cover relevant topics; the participants of these half-yearly conferences can listen to presentations by knowledgable speakers, discuss practical questions, share ideas and also gain credits. The lectures are archived and are accessible to members on our website.

We are committed to preventive healthcare; strive to gain the required support for school healthcare to enable it to provide high quality services nationwide; and enhance its power to attract and preserve high-calibre professionals.

To achieve our targets we provide strategic recommendations for the State Secretariat for Healthcare, and initiate consultations with relevant professional organisations. We have analysed the situation and characteristics of school healthcare, made recommendations about the role of school healthcare in health education, investigated the Matthias method a test of healthy posture in childhood, looked into and advised on issues of documentation. Our members participate in the development of best practice directives.

School healthcare is in a unique and privileged situation in the field of prevention by being present and operating in the natural educational environment of children, and delivering services by professionals with medical knowledge.  We are convinced that taking advantage of multi-disciplinary cooperation we can together help the health and well-being of all children more effectively, and can especially  realise the equal rights of handicapped and chronically sick children.

Currently school healthcare has to deal with several challenges: the standard of provision is heterogeneous, current practice does not meet requirements especially considering  information  systems, inadequate funding of the services, insufficient methodology support.

With our motivated and dedicated team of members we work to preserve the health of children and young people by improving the conditions of school healthcare. We would like to welcome and encourage you to support our organisation by becoming an active or supporting member of FJIT.
